HIGHER EDUCATION SYSTEM IN USA

Five different qualification courses are comprising the higher education in USA – Associate degree, Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree (Professional), Master’s degree (Academic), and Ph.D.

Associate degree – It is a degree earned mostly to launch a career and is a job-oriented program. The usual duration of this program is 2 years and is also considered equivalent to the first 2 years of a 4-year bachelor’s degree program.
Bachelor’s degree – The undergraduate study of 3-4 years earns one the bachelor’s degree. The bachelor’s degree program consists of core courses and fundamental courses like major, minor and elective.
Master’s degree (Professional) – A master’s degree after a bachelor’s degree that is designed for students to enter into a specific profession and guides them from basic to a particular profession. The duration of this program is 1-3 years depending on the field of study.
Master’s degree (Academic) – A master’s degree after a bachelor’s degree that is generally awarded in traditional disciplines of humanities, arts, and science. Such a master’s degree can be research-based and/or course-based. The duration of this program is 2 years and may lead students to a doctoral program.
Doctorate or Ph.D. – Doctorate degree programs for 5-8 years are obtained on completion of the dissertation and successful defense before a panel of experienced faculty members.

Universities in USA have more than two intakes allowing students to enroll in August/September known as the fall semester, January/February intake usually known as spring intake, and summer intake during May/June. Fee Structure

The tuition fee solely depends on the type of qualification and university or college you choose. Courses in medicine and engineering are likely to be more expensive. As with most other countries, MBA programs are often the most expensive. The tuition fee spent annually can range anywhere between US$ 6,000 and US$55,000. Financial aid

Visa Processing

One needs to apply for their student visa, through the online US visa application using the US EMBASSY Bangladesh. Note that, the date of application is the same date when your application fee is paid.

The US Government offers three different student visa types:

2	J Exchange Visa (J-1)	for participation in an exchange program, including high school and university study
3	M Student Visa (M1)	for non-academic or vocational study or training in the US

As of now any applicant from outside the US will have to pay US$160 as the visa application fee.

There is now a US$350 SEVIS fee on F and M visa applications and US$220 on majority of the J Visa applications, this includes the cost of the computer system which is used to record your stay in the United States (SEVIS).

You must submit your offer letter from the university where want to study. Furthermore, you will have to show your language proficiency test score (IELTS, PTE), otherwise you will not be allowed to submit your application. US educational institutions require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 bands. In addition, you must submit your identification. Then, you will have provided the document which will prove that you are capable enough to support your studies and living cost while being in USA. You must apply at least 4 months before the start of your course, and it can take up to three months to get the visa.
